Push-ups are one of the simplest fitness exercises, yet they are also one of the most challenging to do correctly and one of the most frequently mis-executed exercises. This video from IAMFit Transformation King Ernie Groff demonstrates important techniques to consider as you do push-ups.
Keys to Proper Push-ups
1) Keep your feet shoulder-width apart. Many people keep their feet together, but this requires you to hold your body in a tripod position as opposed to a square position. Using the square position helps you better isolate the desired muscles.
2) Keep your hands underneath your armpits. Oftentimes, people extend their hands way out near their head, which makes things a lot harder and a lot less efficient. You should be able to touch your armpits with your thumbs when you go down.
3) Come all the way down to 90 degrees. Make sure that you don’t cheat by going only part of the way down. Don’t let momentum do the work for you; take charge and get the most out of your exercise.
Follow these easy tips, which Ernie demonstrates in the video, and you’ll be on your way to gaining more strength wherever and whenever you want with this versatile exercise.
Honor Veterans With The 22 Push-Up Challenge
Right now at IAMFit, our clients are taking the 22 Push-Up Challenge, a program created by the 22 Kill Foundation. Every day, 22 veterans commit suicide, which is totally unacceptable! The 22 Push-Up Challenge raises awareness by encouraging people to stand in solidarity with veterans and to make sure to look out for those who looked out for us. Keeping veterans in mind with this simple, effective exercise is a great way to honor their sacrifice as you work on improving yourself.
